What We Do

Find out how Bike Walk Connecticut is empowering communities!

Safe Streets & a Sustainable Future

At Bike Walk Connecticut, we are working to create a Connecticut where everyone can move safely, easily, and confidently. Our work goes beyond individual programs to drive lasting change in how cycling and pedestrian laws are written, how communities connect, and how people experience everyday travel.

Priority 1

Promote Active Transportation

We help transform how people move through their communities. By advancing bike and pedestrian friendly initiatives and championing safer infrastructure, we make it easier and more appealing to choose active transportation. Our work contributes to more connected neighborhoods and a Connecticut where walking and biking are safe, practical, and widely embraced.

How We Accomplish This

  • Supporting bicycle friendly applications
  • Improving the state ranking for being bikable or walkable
  • Support local initiatives that expand access to safe walking and biking
  • Helping pass or support laws that improve pedestrian and cyclist safety measures

Priority 2

Advocacy

We drive meaningful policy change that makes Connecticut’s streets safer for everyone. By working with state and federal leaders, we help shape laws, funding priorities, and transportation policies that protect people. Our advocacy leads to safer local roads, stronger protections for vulnerable road users, and a future where walking and biking are fully supported across the state.

How We Accomplish This

  • National Bike Summit
  • Bike Helmet Laws
  • Transit Equity Day
  • Town infrastructure master plans
  • CT Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Board
  • Complete Streets Task Force

Priority 3

Education & Training

We empower people with the knowledge and skills to ride and walk safely and confidently. Through hands-on training, educational programs, and expanded access opportunities like scholarships, we break down barriers to participation.

How We Accomplish This

  • Bicycle education including LCI training and Smart Cycling
  • E-bike education
  • Community events with hands-on safety training
  • Scholarships

Priority 4

Community Outreach & Support

From energizing statewide events to supporting local advocacy groups, we create opportunities for individuals and communities to get involved and make an impact. Our network strengthens local voices and turns shared passion into lasting change.

How We Accomplish This

  • National Bike to Work Day
  • Ride the State
  • Promotion of Community Events
  • Informational Newsletter
